I breezed right through this book and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was chock-full of amateur and professional baseball events from the perspective of a battle-hardened umpire. Lots of insider scoop in this book.

The book is humorous and written from a self-deprecating viewpoint. The ump, Kaiser, spent 13 years in the minors and 23 in the Bigs. He's been around the block - in more ways than one - with all of the biggest names in baseball.

Some of the insider stories are hilarious, and bring a lot of humor to the sometimes life-and-death intensity of baseball. Sometimes it's good to get a peek into the mind of someone who doesn't take the game as seriously as a heart attack.

Kaiser is opinionated - he wouldn't be a good ump if he wasn't - and in ancient umpiring tradition, he sticks to his guns.

I found myself laughing out loud at some points in this book, and felt like my 13 year old son would enjoy it, too. I was right. He did. :)

I recommend this book to adults and kids alike.
