New Video Game Release

Little League World Series 2008

I have mixed feelings about video games. I prefer the kids to be outside, playing for real, rather than indoors on their butts zoning out to a video game. But the Wii has certainly charmed me into leniency when it comes to some games. Well, the Wii and Guitar Hero. I do love my rock and roll!

Anyway, once in awhile a game comes along that I know I wouldn't mind the kids playing - and this just might be one of them...

Last week, the new youth sports video game, Little League World Series 2008, was released. The game runs about $49.99 for the Wii version from online vendors like Amazon (free shipping), or $46 from NewEgg (plus $3 shipping). Here's an online price comparison chart. As you can see, there's not a whole lot of diversity there so go with the online vendor you trust most. The Nintendo DS version is $29.99.

The AP describes the game this way:

Can’t get enough of the Little League World Series? Or just trying to relive some of the glory days of your youth? Either way, you can get your game on with the release of "Little League Baseball World Series". It’s a new videogame from ActiVision that is licensed by the people running the tournament currently going on in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The title is designed to let younger players hit, pitch and field their way from the local sandlot all the way to the mini-version of the World Series.

To maintain the international flavor of the event, there are eight international teams to go along with the 8 U.S. teams. The version for the Wii takes advantage of the motion-controlled remote that has made that system so popular. The title is also available for the Nintendo DS, so players can take the action anywhere they go. The game is rated "E" for Everyone by the ESRB.

I now know what to get my nephews for Christmas. I may even let them play it!
